Marty DuFour recalls her life here with a smile in her eyes and one on her on her lips to match. This stout member of the community has lived in Lincoln County for 35 years and in Caliente since 1993.
Born May 25, 1922, Marty will soon celebrate her 90th birthday. She met her husband Richard in Las Vegas at one of the ?big casinos? in 1963. They moved from San Diego, California to Pioche, where Marty worked as a dispatcher for the Sheriff?s office for several years. They owned the ?DuFour?s Fix-it Shop? in Pioche and then turned it into ?Grandpa?s.? The couple raised five children, three boys and two girls. They managed the shop by living in the back part of the establishment. This convenient type of living arrangement was a very common thing in those days.
Her husband, now deceased, was a Mason and she was a Maitre D? of the Eastern Star. They also donated money for the flag and flag pole at the Olson?s Senior Center in Caliente where she loves to go to lunch every day. Marty is the only one surviving of her siblings. She loves bingo and animals and is very much a people person. She exclaims she ?likes everyone.?
