The Panaca Elementary sixth graders just wound up their Third Annual “Lincoln County Scenic Half Marathon and 10K” on Saturday, July 6.
The event, which helps them earn their way to Washington D.C. this winter to place wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery, was very successful.
In the midst of the county’s summer heat wave, a beautiful morning presented itself for the run, with a nice cool breeze helping them make the 13 and 6 mile treks past lakes and valleys from Spring Valley to Echo Lake.
This year the winner of the half marathon was Greg Walker from Panaca. Contestants came from Lund, Las Vegas, Mesquite, Reno, and Utah, along with our locals.
There were 30 runners registered and prizes awarded to our top three men and women in each race. There was great support from local businesses of Jim Wilkin Trucking, McCrosky’s Y Service, Panaca Market and Great Basin Foods in Caliente.
We look forward to next year’s race to be held July 5, 2014, so get your running shoes on and we’ll see you there.
