This year’s Labor Day celebration in Pioche is all ready to go with a weekend full of activities for residents and visitors.

This year’s Labor Day celebration in Pioche is all ready to go with a weekend full of activities for residents and visitors.

Tara Clark from Amazon Ranch holds an annual Kids Horse Camp Friday night to Saturday morning, that includes a trail ride, sleepover, dutch oven dinner and breakfast.

Creative Artists of Lincoln County start organizing for the craft fair and art show the beginning of Friday afternoon at the old Pioche school on Main Street, and Bingo is played from 7 to 9 that evening in the new Fire Hall on Airport Road.

The Masonic Lodge in Pioche offers breakfast Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning, and proceeds from the breakfast help buy school supplies for the Pioche elementary.

Softball, volleyball and golf tournaments kick off Saturday morning, as well as a Turkey shoot offered by the Rod & Gun Club at the shooting range.

This year, the Labor Day Committee will also have an antique car show outside the new Pioche elementary at 9 a.m., followed by a craft show at the Town Hall, Farmer’s market by the Memorial Garden Town Park open Saturday and Sunday, and a bake sale at the Thompson Opera House.

Creative Artists of Lincoln County start the art show and the sidewalk chalk art contest at 10 a.m.

The T-ball field at the town park will host the hay scramble and cake walk at 10 also.

Kids enjoy free swimming at the town pool from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Games for the kids, as well adults, and the horseshoes are offered all afternoon at the town park.

The fireman’s grudge match between Pioche and Caliente volunteer firefighters will take place at 5 p.m. at the park.

Dinners will be served Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday will be hosted by the Berean Baptist Church and will offer a spaghetti dinner for patrons. Sunday, the annual Firemen’s dinner will be held at 4 p.m.

Saturday night has everyone uptown for the street dance on Main Street, with a night parade.

Travel to Eagle Valley Reservoir Sunday for the Fishing Derby, where Eagle Valley Resort, LLC will be awarding prizes for length and weight for men, women and children. The contest goes from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The softball tournament resumes at 7 a.m. Sunday also.

The Lincoln Links Golf Association will hold their annual auction at the town park at 11 a.m., followed by the doubles horseshoes at Noon.

Visit the Thompson Opera House that is open for tour between Noon and 3 p.m. Adult mining events kick off at 1 p.m. at the park, along with a pet show next to the T-ball field. At the horse arena, watch the lawn mower races, including Pioche’s local Outlaws Racing Team.

At 9 p.m., find your seats for the annual fireworks display held at the town park.

Monday morning, there is a 10K Fun Run that will start at the town park. The Labor Day Parade will be at 10 a.m., and will go down most of Main Street, starting at the top of the hill.

After the parade, kids get another chance to play at the park with more kids games. The taco stand will set up at 11 a.m.

The annual Panaca hot springs mini-triathlon has been canceled this year due to unforeseen events. However, Dr. Klomp encourages runners to participate in and enjoy the 10K fun run.

The town of Pioche will then empty out, and residents can take a much needed “breath of fresh air,” from all the weekend excitement. Whether this is your first or fiftieth Pioche Labor Day celebration, it is a memorable event filled with activities, and sponsored by many local businesses and individuals, and put on by the Pioche Labor Day Committee.
