The Lincoln County Lynx opened their league play on Sept. 6 in a home game with Agassi Prep. Agassi Prep was coming off a 55-0 non-conference win over West Wendover, and the Lynx were trying to  recover from an unsuccessful trip to Enterprise the previous week.

The Lynx opened the game receiving the ball, and after a short return broke the first play from scrimmage for a big gain before turning the ball over to the Stars. Lincoln held the Stars and after Agassi went for it on 4th and 5, Lincoln took possession on their own 40. After two consecutive sacks on third and fourth down, the Lynx turned over the ball on downs. With 5:03 remaining in the first quarter, an official’s timeout was called for a lightning delay. After a 17-minute delay the first quarter would remain scoreless.

On fourth and ten from the Agassi 13 yard line, Derek Shumway hit Chris Florence with a touchdown pass and the Lynx followed up with the two point conversion to take an 8-0 lead with 9:33 remaining in the second quarter. In the next one minute the Stars would score and bobble the snap on the PAT to take the score to 8-6. Lincoln would take the two point lead to the locker room at the half.

On their first possession of the second half, Agassi scored a touchdown with a good point after to take the lead at 13-8. The Lynx held the Stars scoreless for the remainder of the third but was unable to generate any points offensively. The Stars junior running back Kobe Williams scored a rushing touchdown to move Agassi Prep further ahead by a score of 19-8 with 9:57 remaining in the game. The Lynx continued to struggle with penalties and turnovers as Stars defensive back Elijah Henderson picked off Shumway at the Lynx 35. On the second play from scrimmage on the resulting possession, Kobe Williams would score his third rushing touchdown of the game taking the Stars to a 25-8 lead and the win.

The win takes Agassi to an overall record of 2-0 and a division record of 1-0. The Lynx fall to 0-2 overall and are winless in the division. The Lynx will next face White Pine County when they host the Bobcats on Sept. 13 in another home game.
