
Gordon Lyle Ernst peacefully passed away on Sept. 30.
He was born Nov. 17, 1933 on a small farm near Columbus, Neb. to Bessie Kershaw and Arnold Ernst. He spent his childhood in Nebraska and graduated from Kramer High School in 1952 after which he served in the United States Army at Allison AFB Alaska in Small Arms Repair. There he became a member of the 50 below zero club. He later was employed and traveled with Western Electric Co. It was in Phoenix Ariz., he met and married Karen McConnell in 1958. They traveled with his communications work until 1963 when they settled in Las Vegas Nev. and started their family. He started work at So. Nevada Telephone Company, later Centel, then Sprint. Upon retirement in 1996, they moved to Pioche.
Gordon was active in helping build and maintain the golf course. His hobbies were golfing, fishing and cheering on the Nebraska Huskers and the UNLV Rebels.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Yvonne, and brothers Alvin and Max.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his sons James and Derek; seven grandchildren: Christopher, Jillian, Kaylee, AJ, Logan, Eden and Cade; his sister Norma; and brother John.
A Celebration of Life will be held in North Las Vegas at the home of James Ernst, 1310 Stable Glen, 89031 on Sunday Oct. 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. Services will be held in Pioche at the Berean Baptist Church, 233 Baptist Dr., 89043 on Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
