Local 4-H?ers honored at ceremony

On Sept. 20, 4-H youth, along with leaders and parents, gathered together at Kershaw Ryan State Park, for the annual 4-H Awards Ceremony and BBQ. 4-H Council President Tammy Ahlstrom, reintroduced the tradition of a banquet dinner with a modern twist of a good ol? BBQ dinner and awards ceremony. There were more than 125 people whom attended this event.

Following the BBQ, the Awards Ceremony was kicked off by 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Grant Perkins, who announced the top 3 Division Winners and over-all top winner for Lincoln County Shooting Sports. This year?s Jr. Division Winner was Trevin Perkins, while the Intermediate Division Winner was Chance Dotson. The Sr. Division Award went to Raymond Thompson, while the Over All top Winner was Jason Wurtz.

The 4-H Council then went on to award several hundred dollars? worth of cash prizes to youth involved in 4-H club activities and the Lincoln County Fair. There are two top award winners, with one being the ?Top Exhibitor,? based on all the total points received from all of the items placing as Blue-Ribbon, Reserved and Grand Champion in the Lincoln County Fair. This year?s ?Top Exhibitor? award went to Joanna Ahlstrom. The 4-H Council then awarded the overall ?Top 4-H?er,? which is based on club participation, community service, as well as fund-raising, also to Joanna Ahlstrom. Congratulations!

The 4-H Council, along with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, also awarded leaders that have been involved in 4-H for more than five years. John Ahlstrom of Caliente was awarded a golden clover pin, for his 20+ years in the program. Sue Higbee, of Alamo, was also awarded a clover pin, for her 25+ years. We cannot thank them and all of our 4-H leaders enough for their dedication to the Lincoln County 4-H program.

A new 4-H year began Oct. 1. We look forward to all of the youth participating once again and having the opportunity to bring home the ?Top 4-H?er? Award.
