Nevadaween, a celebration of both Nevada’s birthday and Halloween, is one of the official Nevada 150th birthday kickoff events for the sesquicentennial year celebration. Join us Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort in downtown Las Vegas for fun family activities such as pumpkin painting, a scavenger hunt and Nevada-shaped cookie decorating. Sample delicious homemade soups and vote for your favorite at our annual Soup Cook-off, starting at 11 a.m. Also enjoy a slice of Nevada’s birthday cake.

Children 12 and under are invited to participate in the Historical Costume Contest by dressing as a character from Nevada’s past. Sign up for the contest is from 9 a.m. until noon, and will take place at 1 p.m. Four winners will be selected from three age groups: 3 years old and younger, 4 to 6 years old, 7 to 9 years old and 10 to 12 years old. The winner from each group will receive a $25 gift card and everyone who participates will receive a certificate and treat bag. The Nevadaween celebration will include a variety of raffle prizes; tickets are $1 each or $5 for six.

One of the many Nevada State Parks 150 festivities will include a free admission day to all 23 of Nevada’s beautiful State parks. Mark your calendar for June 14, 2014, and join us for a fun filled day of celebrating Nevada’s 150th birthday.
