Four wrestlers from Pahranagat Valley placed in the 16-team Arbor View High JV Kickoff tournament in Las Vegas Dec. 7.
Jeremy Minick took first place at 138-pounds. Oscar Heredia (120) took third, Bailey Peck (160), fourth place, and Mateo Linares (220) was second place.
Coach Brad Loveday said, “They did fine for their first tournament. It’s early in the season. It’s a chance to get on the mat and wrestle some other kids and see where we’re at. We’ve got a long ways to go with all the kids.”
Pahranagat hosted a duel meet Dec. 12 with Lincoln and Beaver Dam (Ariz.). “It won’t really be a duel,” Loveday said, “It will just be some matches pairing kids up with other from the same weight class and get them some matches.” Some middle school wrestlers were also expected to be involved.
On Dec. 14, PVHS participates in a similar setup at Durango High in Las Vegas. Again Loveday said, “It’s not really a tournament, just matching kids up from the same weight groups, just to get some matches in.”
Dec. 20-21, Alamo wrestles in the Centennial High Invitational in Las Vegas. That will be their final competitions until after the Christmas and New Year’s break.
