Lincoln County used only seven wrestlers at the Tiger Tournament in Milford, Utah Jan. 18, and ended up taking fourth place in the 12-team tournament with 138 points.

“We had a great tournament,” said Coach Steve Culverwell. “We had two firsts, two seconds, and a fourth.”

Zach Rowe (106) and Danny Olson (132) were individual champions. Second place went to Derek Mathews (113) and Jesse Mathews (120), and fourth place to Will Culverwell (138).

Coach Culverwell said it was mostly Utah teams and he was very pleased with the fine showing by the Lynx. “They’re doing well. We’ve been doing the basics, adding a little more all the time, and we have worked hard at running those things. You only have to do a few things well. It’s basic things they have done before, but we have just hammered on those things over and over and over. If you can do a few things well, then you’ll be fine.”

Lincoln has six freshmen and two sophomores as the team nucleus, which they are using to build for the future.

LCHS plans to participate this weekend at the 40-team Pine View Tournament in St. George, Utah. Pahranagat Valley is going to the Wells Invitational.

PVHS did not complete last week because the tournament at Eldorado High in Las Vegas was canceled.
