The launch of the 10-digit mandatory dialing for Las Vegas phone numbers went into effect May 3.

Since the addition of the 10-digit dialing for the Clark County area, some Lincoln County residents have had difficulties calling local numbers from their cell phone.

There is no reported problem in the Verizon wireless service, however since the launch of the new Clark County area code, cellular phone users in Lincoln County are being required to use area codes also, even for numbers with the same prefix. Cox says the 10-digit mandatory dialing only affects Clark County, not Lincoln.

However, for cell phone users who are not being connected with their calls, the addition of the Lincoln County area code to the number could be the solution.

The additional area code is the result of the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA), which estimated the 702 area code will be “exhausted” by the third quarter of this year, prompting the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) to approve a new area code, 725, which they announced Nov. 15, 2012.
