Foreign exchange student Alex Gomez, who only went out for Cross County for something to do, help lead Lincoln County the Southern Division III Cross Country Championship last Saturday at Foothill High in Henderson.

Gomez a sophomore from Spain, said he likes sports and when he came to Lincoln as a student this year, he had to choose between football and cross country. “I didn’t like football, so that’s why I chose cross country.”

He said he had never run before in school, but he has certainly helped the Lynx with his decision. His best time for 5,000 meters this season was 20:12.8 Sept. 27.

The Lynx took four of the top 10 places in the 5,000-meter race. Cutty Zanghi of Adelson was the individual champion in 17:46.
Gomez was second in the race in 20:28, Michael Winters sixth in 20:57.1, Ben Culverwell eighth in 21:10 and Calvin Christiansen 10th in 22:36.7. Tyler Frehner placed 12th for the Lynx in 22:50.8.

The Lincoln team scored 25 points to 45 for second place Coral Academy and 51 points for third place Adelson.
