Taking a pair of wins from Needles last week kept Lincoln County in second place in the Division III Southern girls volleyball race behind leader White Pine.
The first match was closer than the scores might indicate, 25-12, 25-14, with Lincoln getting 12 kills from Chesnee Harding.
Lincoln Libero Alisha Rowe said, ?I think we dropped down to their level a lot. We believe that we are at a higher standard, and we were supposed to play above that, but we dropped down. We could have beat them by a lot more. I get a little nervous when the scores are close and then I start messing up.?
In the second match, Lincoln showed a bit more strength with eight kills by Kayla Mathews and 11 assists from Harding, and won 25-18, 25-17.
For the season, Rowe said, ?I believe that we have done well, but we do have ups and downs. Instead of having a steady pace we seem to real good and then drop down and don?t do so good. I think we?ll do good in eh playoffs.”
Coach Ken Thornock commented, ?We had a slow start in the first match with the scores closer that I would have imagined them being. The girls played well, we were aggressive, but then we had too many unforced errors and we scored a lot of points for the other team. We played a lot better in the second match.?
Lincoln?s final league match was with Mountain View (12-19, 6-8), Oct. 30, but will hold onto second place with at least a split with the Saints. Lincoln and Pahranagat Valley have a non-league meeting Nov. 4 in Panaca as a tune-up for their respective league tournaments. Lincoln won the first meeting 3-1 Sept. 2.
Calvary Chapel (19-11, 10-5) and The Meadows (17-12, 9-5) split their match on Friday which left Calvary two games back of Lincoln in the league. Calvary finished league play at Laughlin Oct. 30.
On Tuesday this week, Lincoln (19-9, 13-3) finished the league season with a double-header win over Mountain View (12-21, 6-10) by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 22-25, 25-15, 15-7. Kayla Mathews had 13 kills and three aces in the second match.
What is happening with teams in the Northern Division III is another go round between powerful defending state champion Yerington (30-2), winners of six of the last eight tournaments, Incline (9-6) and Pershing County (18-12).
The four-team, one day Southern Division III playoffs will be Nov. 8 at The Meadows High. State tournament is Nov. 14-15 in Reno.
