Wrestling is coming to the end of the season with the Southern Division III and Division IV league finals this weekend at Laughlin.

Both Lincoln County and Pahranagat Valley will participate.

Panther coach Brad Loveday said, “This is equivalent like in basketball to your season matches, the ones that count to seed you into the region tournament next weekend.”

PVHS had several strong contenders until Monday of this week, when Salvador Heredia (106) suffered a shoulder injury and Austin Horrocks (182), a knee injury, during practice time. “We’re not sure if either of them is going to be able to finish out the season. Two of our kids that really had a shot to do something,” said Loveday.

Other members of the Panther team with good chances to qualify for regionals are Oscar Heredia (140), Danny Heredia (145), and Mateo Linares (215).

Last season Linares placed fourth in state and Oscar Heredia also went, but did not place.

Lincoln County has about five wrestlers with good chances to make regionals and advance to state. Derek Mathews (126) and his brother Jesse (138) are expected to do well along with Jesse McLean (160), Zack Rowe (120), and Will Culverwell (145).

The Divines III Southern League regionals where the top four men in each weight class qualify for state, will be at Lincoln County High in Panaca Feb. 7.
