Vicki Mae Gustafson

4Vicki Mae Gustafson, age 72, passed away on March 25 in Cedar City, Utah. She was born on Feb. 17, 1943 in Driggs, Idaho to Victor Leon and Ila Harriman Gustafson.

Vicki?s family moved to Caliente and she graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1961. In 1996, after 32 years of service, she retired from Las Vegas Metro-police Department where she taught the D.A.R.E. program throughout the Clark County elementary schools. Vicki was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, mostly with the youth of the church.?She was nominated for the Nevada Governor?s Points of Light Award in 2009 for service through the RSVP program in Lincoln County. Vicki was affectionately known as ?Big Bird? by all who loved her and as ?Officer Vicki? by the school children.

Vicki is survived by her brother George Gustafson of Fruita, Colo., her sister Verona Thompson of Cedar City, Utah and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Terry Gustafson and Theron Gustafson and sister Lasca Schofield.

Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31 at the LDS Chapel in Caliente. A viewing was held at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment was in the Caliente City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Nevada Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent at www.snmortuary.com.
