Alamo resident Mark Higbee, 41, was critically injured May 28 in a near head on collision with a semi-truck about 7:25 that evening on U.S. 93 about 20 miles south of the Lincoln County line.
Nevada Highway Patrol reports a semi-tractor trailer, traveling south in the area of mile marker 66 in Clark County, collided with Higbee’s minivan heading north. NHP says the truck driver allowed the vehicle to cross into the northbound lane and struck the driver’s side of the van.
Higbee had to be extricated from the van and was flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas by Mercy Air.
The truck driver was not injured and was cited for the accident. The semi-truck caught fire and was completely destroyed. NHP reports the fire seems to have started prior to the collision.
Higbee suffered extensive injuries to the left side of the body and underwent emergency surgery at the hospital and is now said to be slowly improving and in stable condition.
