The recent Memorial Day Weekend brought quite a few tourists into town and, with them, concerns and questions about Pioche’s Labor Day celebration being canceled.

The 2015 Labor Day Celebration is not only on track to happen, but will offer a few additions as well.

The customary events will still be featured – mining competitions, softball, and the Pioche Fire Department’s fireworks show are all on the docket. New events include a Cornhole Tournament, Poker Run, ATV Barrel Race and a Wild West Shootout.

Also new this year will be individual sponsorship spots in the event program. Those interested in sponsorships can visit the Pioche Chamber website at www.piochenevada.com.

T-shirts are on sale now at local businesses. Raffle tickets and buttons are expected to go on sale this week. The raffle prizes this year are as follows: Go Pro Hero3 Silver, Fit Bit Charge, a $400 Home Depot Gift Card, a 16GB Kindle and a quilt.

Planning is on track, but the Labor Day Committee may need volunteers to work a shift at an event during the actual celebration. If interested in volunteering during the celebration, please contact Kristina Lloyd at krislloyd73@gmail.com or Christy Blood at christy_blood@yahoo.com.

The committee is still accepting donations. You can either mail your donation to the Pioche Labor Day Committee at P.O. Box 127, Pioche, NV, 89043 or you can donate to the committee’s gofundme account which is found at www.gofundme.com/mvdiaw. If you have trouble with that link, just go to www.gofundme.com and type Pioche Labor Day in the search box.
