Motorcyclist killed in Pony Springs rest stop accident

July 17, 2015 by Dave Maxwell

A Logandale man was killed in an SUV-motorcycle accident at the Pony Springs Rest Stop on U.S. 93 north of Pioche July 10.

Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee said 54-year old James Tanner, was the lead rider of a group of northbound motorcycles and support vehicles about 12:20 p.m. when he attempted to turn into the rest stop area, just south of the Pony Springs Fire Station.

His vehicle was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Marisa Border, 35, of Henderson.

Emergency 911 calls said Tanner?suffered a severe injury to his left leg, along with other major injuries. He was wearing a helmet.

Meadow Valley Volunteer Fire and Panaca Ambulance and EMS responded, along with sheriff?s deputies and NHP troopers. Intermountain Healthcare Life Flight was dispatched from St. George, Utah, but was soon cancelled.

Despite efforts by emergency personnel Tanner died at the scene.

The NHP Fatal team from Ely was called in to investigate, and Lee reported the initial findings seemed to indicate that the northbound SUV was attempting to pass the motorcycles and collided with Tanner as he turned into the rest stop.

I’m curious about this ‘accident’. The woman was traveling at a high rate of speed, we were told 90-100ish. The riders and their follow vehicles all had the left turn signals on and she possibly passed on a double yellow line. Are there going to be charges filed against this woman?? Manslaughter? Negligent homicide? Something. She murdered a dear friend and an extremely good man. We need more info please. Also, there is no such thing as a Ford Tahoe.

Speeding (90-100 mph according to witnesses), driving left of center, passing in a no-pass zone and (by the way) zooming past a bunch of cyclist with their turn signals on, only to run down the first guy to turn. She gets a misdemeanor and 90 days. Because she is a lawyer. Part of the protected class.
