In meetings last June, the Nevada Interscholastic Athletics Association Board of Controllers reconsidered realignment of Division IV for the 2016-2020 four-year cycle and approved moving Adelson School of Las Vegas out of Southern Division IV. Liberty Baptist and Coral Academy, both Vegas schools, would remain independent, at least temporarily.
An earlier survey questionnaire sent out by Assistant Executive Director Donnie Nelson, asked the question: ?If The Adelson School (with a 2014-15 count-day enrollment of 132) was to petition to be / remain in the Division IV, would you vote in favor??
Of the schools that responded to the question, 13 voted No, and 8 voted Yes. On questions asking if Sage Ridge (Reno) and Sierra Lutheran (Carson City) should also be allowed to remain in the Northern Division IV, the vote was 8 Yes and 13 No on both issues.
21 of the 30 schools in Division IV responded with varying comments including: ?Any school that is over the number should be moved to an appropriate division. Charter schools and single-gender schools should be multiplied by two. All schools should use the same academic rules if they are going to participate for state titles. The attendance measure that should be used is calculated at the end of the school year and shows total enrollment for the year.?
?I feel it would really hurt girls sports (volleyball & basketball) if Adelson moved up. Their boys basketball team has been competitive the past few years but the girls have not enjoyed the same success.?
?These (Adelson, Sage Ridge, Sierra Lutheran) are private schools with too many students to be in the Division IV.?
?Sage Ridge?s projected enrollment for 2015-16 is 92, of which only 1/3 participate in sports. The school is barely competitive in the Division IV as it is.?
?Round Mountain should come to the North and play in the East League to help balance the divisions.?
?More clarification is needed for the eligibility of students adjudicated to schools like Spring Mountain, R.O.P. and others. They should have to wait at least six weeks to become eligible.?
