Two months ago, the Thompson Opera House in Pioche suffered its second consecutive financial loss due to attendance and, to the heartbreak of Leslie Derkovitz, consideration had to be made as to whether or not to pull the plug on the entire idea.
Derkovitz said then, “We can’t afford to pay the difference owed to an artist out of our own pockets. We’ve now done it twice”.
On Oct. 9, the Opera House looks to prove the reward still outweighs the risk by bringing in Doug and Aaron Haywood for a Friday evening concert. “I really believe that this show will be a big success,” Derkovitz said. “I’d really like to thank the companies helping sponsor the event: Ghost Town Art and Coffee Company, The Nevada Club, LCTS, A & B Service, The Rag Doll, Wright’s Country Cabins, McCrosky’s Y Service, The Krimper and The Overland Hotel and Saloon.”
Doug Haywood is a singer-songwriter-musician who has worked with some of the most iconic musicians of the last four-plus decades. Those musicians include Jackson Browne, who he’s toured with (and continues to do so) for twenty years, Linda Ronstad, Graham Nash, the late Warren Zevon and many others. He has a very long list of touring and recording credits. He has also co-written songs with artists such as David Lindley, Bobby Gentry, The Dillards, Mason Williams, Jennifer Warnes, Juice Newton and Jerry Reed.
Aaron, who began playing music with his dad around age 14 and performing with im at age 19 plays bass for the popular Denver based Celtic rock band “The Indulgers.”
Advanced tickets for the show are $12 or $15 at the door. For more information, contact Leslie Derkovitz at 775-962-5426.
