Flooding is a continuing concern, as Caliente City Council members discussed the issue at their regular meeting on Sept. 17.

The council considered the possibility of a motocross track in the area, but it was voted against due to the flooding concerns. A vote was made to focus on those problems. “Let’s take care of real issues first,” Mayor Stana Hurlburt said.

The city has applied for funds to fix flooding issues and is awaiting grant approval.

Also discussed was possible revitalization of downtown and finding a consultant to do the legwork in compiling information on who owns the sidewalks and who needs to be contacted to obtain approval for the revitalization.

The council also discussed the community event held at Caliente Elementary on Sept. 22 and reviewed plans for it, including the city’s participation.
