The Lincoln County High School cross country team heads to Elko on Thursday for their last meet before the Southern Regional Championships in Boulder City on Oct. 30.

The Lincoln County cross country team ran in the Lake Mead Invitational at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Boulder City on Saturday.

According to their coach, Lacey Pearson, the kids threw down what’s called a “hammer” week leading up to the event. This means they worked harder than usual, which made them tired going into their race.

“They are determined to do well at our regional meet,” Pearson said. There were no person records this last weekend, however, Jesse and Shayla Mathews both came away with medals in their varsity races. “I was very proud of our team,” Pearson said. The boys team finished 8th in the Varsity D1A division race against 17 other schools, most of theme being bigger schools in Vegas, Pearson said.

On Thursday the team is heading to Elko to compete against West Wendover. Though Wendover is listed as a northern team, they will actually compete at upcoming the Southern Regional meet.

“It’ll be great to see them at least once before racing against them at regionals,” Pearson said. The Elko meet will be the last one before regionals in Boulder City on Oct. 30.
