A Caliente public hearing on pets and animal control is set for the regular city council meeting on November 19 at 6 p.m.
A new amended ordinance is being considered and will be discussed at the hearing, giving residents the chance to offer their input. The council discussed the issue during its meeting on October 22. An existing city ordinance states dogs must be on an eight-foot leash and in a gated yard. However, rules have not been totally enforced in the past, and a man was bitten by a dog last week.
The amended ordinance is more in depth, particularly with how rules will be enforced. It also includes rules on how many pets a person can have at their home in city limits.
Other items discussed during the Oct. 22 meeting included the Caliente United Methodist Church requesting 10th Street be blocked off for the annual Halloween Costume Ball. This event took place on Wednesday.
The old city firehouse lease agreement between Tiffany Kelly and the city has been approved. There was an addition made requiring Kelly to do roof damage repair. Kelly also agreed to have the building inspected for asbestos. She plans on starting construction as soon as possible and expressed excitement about the firehouse and being a part of the Caliente community.
Mayor Andy Hafen of Henderson is working on a meeting that includes all of Nevada’s city council members. He hopes to have something approved for sometime in May.
