County District Attorney Daniel Hooge expressed to commissioners at the Nov. 19 meeting, he would like to have a new email address for security reasons.
Commissioners approved the request.
Hooge explained ?Right now, we have the www.lincolncounty.org web address, the same one as used by everyone else, but as a prosecutor, there are certain databases and federal things that I can?t access.?
He said without the specific email address name, ?I get blocked out of the lot of important and useful databases and federal things, for example, the FBI, that I need to be able to access, all of which would help me a lot as a prosecutor, and the (federal government) doesn?t trust anybody that doesn?t have a .gov ending to their email address. As attorneys, there are certain groups that you can join to get databases on different pleadings and legal documents, that you can access, but only if you are a prosecutor. And to determine if you are a prosecutor, it is required to have a .gov email address.?
County Internet Technician Tracy Lee is not going to need to change the present lincolncountynv.org website name, but for those offices that might request to have an email with the .gov ending, he can help them make the change, as he is with the district attorney. Hooge?s office will still be able to be accessed using the regular county website.
The new service costs $125 a year, but Hooge said he didn?t think it ?would really be of benefit to anybody I can think of other than my office and the sheriff, and the only thing that is really going to change is my email address.?
