Bella Voce of Lincoln County presented The Sounds of Christmas, a choir performed Christmas concert on Dec. 22 and 23 at the Neldon C. Mathews Center in Panaca.

The choir was composed of 64 people and was directed by Klark Black. This was the fifth year of Bella Voce performing in Lincoln County and the choir has grown in size every year. This year’s performance consisted of a cantata style composition of familiar Christmas songs with intermittent speaking parts retelling the birth of Christ. The choir had been rehearsing and practicing since late October, and the performance received several standing ovations. The Mathews Center was filled to capacity.

Accompanying the choir was the addition of a brand new baby grand piano, and Black gave a special thanks to the Piano Gallery in St. George for the new instrument, as well as an anonymous donor. The piano glistened under the lights, and two solo pieces were performed by Karen Culverwell and ShaRee Mathews on the new piano to demonstrate the high quality of its sound. Those attending the concert called the performance “mesmerizing” and “exceptional in every way.”

The talent within the communities of Lincoln County was once again on full display in this exceptional performance. Black’s musical talent and ability to blend voices into a professional choir will continue, and he invited those who enjoy singing to join the group. The next performance will be in the spring and was announced to be a composition of patriotic songs.
