Now it’s time for the Southern Division III/IV wrestling finals at West Wendover this weekend. All 10 teams from the division will send competitors to the regional event with the top four from each weight class qualifying for the state wrestling tournament Feb. 20 at Primm.

Last week at Indian Springs in the Southern League duals Pahranagat Valley’s Salvador Heredia (113) earned a first place seed to the regionals, Oscar Heredia (152), and Chris Thornton (195) and Tyler Horrocks, (285) each earned a No. 2 seed. David Ingram (165) and Thane Solorio (170) got a No. 4 seed, as did John Stuart (195). Danny Heredia (145) is a No. 5 seed and Garrett Bowen (175) is a No. 7 seed.

Panther coach Brad Loveday said the team finished third in the duals, losing the second place match to West Wendover 36-33. “But we were third out of 10. We’re all first and second year kids and we ended up third, almost second.”

Peter Vande Sluis and Ammon Rasmussen will be penciled for the regional tournament if they are given a doctor’s release, Loveday said.

The Lincoln County High School wrestlers are set to compete as well. The Record was unable to reach their coach for comment on the upcoming tournament prior to deadline.
