1929 – 2016
June Ione Shumway Hosier passed away peacefully in her home, in Alamo, Nevada, surrounded by her children and loved ones on Feb. 12, 2016. June was deeply loved by her family and the community she had been apart of most of her life.
June enjoyed people and was found often sitting on her front porch visiting with friends as they passed by. It was rare for someone to leave her home without having been fed or hearing her contagious laugh ?the Shumway cackle?. She never missed an opportunity to rock a baby, cheer on a local sports team or talk to her grandchildren about the value of hard work and sacrifice.
She was born on June 3, 1929 to Vernell and Enola May Shumway in Ely, Nevada. She learned to hold her own having three brothers and became quite a feisty and stubborn little girl. Although she loved spending time with her mother learning how to keep a proper house she spent most of her childhood helping her father on their ranch and trapping. She preferred outdoor adventures over lace and dolls.
Later in life, she married Robert Wayne Hosier and was blessed with five beautiful children who she spent a lifetime ?fussing? over.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Joel Hosier and three brothers, Joel Leroy Shumway, Ivan Vernell Shumway and Nolan Franklin Shumway. She is survived by her four children, Robert Vern Hosier (Jolene), Nola Holton (Tony), Kenneth Wayne Hosier and Francine Bingham (Jay), 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Alamo, Nevada. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Burial service will follow at the Hiko Cemetery.
