Caliente’s 65th Homecoming Celebration will be May 26 through the 29th in Historical Downtown Caliente.
The Caliente Homecoming Committee met on Tuesday night, and are meeting every Tuesday, to continue the planning of this four-day special celebration. Though many of the events are not finalized the committee unanimously agreed to pay a special parade tribute to veteran Milo Miller who passed away last week. Miller was an admirable, well-known resident of Caliente and a member of the Caliente VFW. The committee is still looking for entries to participate in the parade which will take place Saturday the 28th at 10 a.m. Parade Chair Kassidi Kreci said, “We’re looking for local sports teams, churches, off-road racers, 4-wheelers and other local talents/residents to participate.”
She added the theme for the parade floats is “Blazing New Trails.” First place prize will be awarded $100, second place $50 and third place $25. For more information on signing up for the parade contact Kreci at 775- 962-2948.
The car show will immediately follow the parade on Saturday the 28th. The committee encourages owners of antique/classic cars to participate. There will be trophies awarded to the winners. It is a non-entry event. Contact John Martinez at 775-962-1808 for further information on the car show.
There will be a barbeque dinner at Rose Memorial Park on Sunday the 29th at 1 p.m. Local garage band Split Infinity will perform at the BBQ. Tickets will be available at Rose Memorial the day of the BBQ. Early tickets can be purchased at Caliente City Hall, or contact Homecoming Committee member Millie Fitzsimons at 775-962-1174.
Homecoming buttons can be purchased from committee member Rosemary Davis at 775-726-3391.
Kershaw-Ryan State Park will be kicking off the celebration with a movie on Thursday night that will soon be announced.
There are many other contests, prizes and games still being decided, including the Amazing Clown Train. All suggestions are welcome.
The Caliente Homecoming Committee invite residents to attend their weekly meeting at The Depot every Tuesday at 4:30.
