On May 3, about 4:51 p.m. Nevada Highway Patrol made a routine stop on a 2015 black Jeep Cherokee for speeding on State Route 318 just north of Hiko.

The vehicle was driven by 41-year old man. A 50-year old woman was the passenger, but their names were not released. Upon making the stop, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. After making a search, a large amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and several bottles of prescription drugs without a prescription were found. Also found was a Highpoint .45 handgun.

The two people were arrested and charged with weapon and drug violations and booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center but were eventually released on bail.
