Caliente Fire Station

The Caliente Fire Station was the site of the Health and Wellness Fair last Saturday.

Grover C. Dils 15th annual Health and Wellness Fair was held this past Saturday at the Caliente Fire Station.

Besides visiting the various booths from all over Lincoln county, there was a variety of entertainment for visitors to enjoy. Dixie Regional’s Flight For Life crew put on a terrific air show, and the children enjoyed the Fire Truck Ride provided by members of the Caliente Fire Department. The Little League Girls Softball Team also held their bake sale.

There were lots of prizes and gift certificates raffled and won by all age groups. The prizes were donated by many of our local Lincoln County businesses.

There were over 30 sponsors locally as well as outside of our Lincoln County. To name a few locally, Dr. Josh Terry; Nevada Highway Patrol, Meadow Valley Pharmacy; our county health nurse, Nicole Rowe; RSVP and Little Books, Little Cooks.

Along with Dixie Regional’s Flight for Life crew, Mercy Air from Las Vegas was present, as well as Comfort Hospice Care and MTM.

Grover C. Dils Medical Center announced that it is working closely with Renown Hospital in Reno, NV to connect community to doctors and specialists without leaving Lincoln County for consultation services. This is done through secure digital video equipment that connects you to doctors in Nevada and gives our residents access to consultations services that they would otherwise need to leave our community for. More details should be coming soon.

The staff at Grover C. Dils organized a wide variety of health and wellness stations. How to cope with dementia and diabetes were two of the topics covered in the inside meeting room while “Learn the Signs of a Stroke” was offered at the GCDMC booth.

Many residents took advantage of the free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, while others took advantage of the various blood draws offered.

“I really enjoyed visiting the booths, learning what was available in our community, and collecting all the samples,” said Dannielle West, a seven-year resident of Caliente. This was West’s first health fair visit since she’s lived in Lincoln County. “I always thought I didn’t need to go, if I’m healthy. I had no idea there was so much good information offered.” She plans on going to them from now on and plans on taking her husband to the next one.

Below is a list of donors that Grover C. Dils would like to thank for their ongoing support throughout the years:

Great Basin Foods; Knotty Pine; Pioneer Pizza; Jerry’s Sinclair; J & J’s Fast Foods; Ghost Town Art & Coffee Co.; Panaca Market; Meadow Valley Pharmacy; Pahranagat Valley Federal Credit Union.

The 2017 Grover C. Dils Health and Wellness Fair has set a date for Saturday May 20 next year.
