An updated report from the Lincoln Communities Action Team (LCAT), which focuses on promoting tourism in Lincoln County, notes that as of the middle of May, Facebook had a little over 900 followers and Twitter had a little over 800 followers. Those number have continued to increase, with over 1,000 followers on Facebook currently.

Communications Coordinator Ben Rowley reported at the group’s monthly meeting, the LCAT website over the previous 30 days had approximately 2,000 visitors with 41 percent from Las Vegas, 11 percent from Los Angeles, eight percent from Reno.

And an extremely encouraging finding showed website activity coming out of Facebook had increased 575 percent from the same period in 2015.

Rowley said he also advertised for the Caliente Memorial Day Homecoming celebration via a digital billboard in Las Vegas.

Advertising funding has been made available through grants from the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) and upcoming events in Lincoln County will be promoted through digital and print advertising in Las Vegas, St. George, Cedar City and other nearby communities.

Grant writer Dawn Andone, who was absent from the meeting, submitted a written report stating she had submitted grant requests in three categories, but results won’t be known until sometime later this month.

Also she has requested to have drone videos to be done for in all the county state parks, She said the drone operator is willing to provide the service.

The Hiko junction road sign is a current priority for LCAT. An $11,000 grant was submitted but only $6,200 was given. LCAT said they will need to find ways to provide matching funds.

Trudy Faulkner reported the Eagle Valley visitor center now has rack cards on display. Treasure Hunters in Caliente is completing a kiosk to display visitor information at that business.

Also discussed at the meeting, Agua Caliente has requested the installation of a hot springs pool at their trailer park. They approached LCAT for feasibility and promotion help. No decision given.

The next LCAT meeting was held June 14. On the agenda were items dealing with LCAT’s potential role in helping advertise via NCOT grant funding. Also alternate, multiple source teleconference ideas for remote members to use, and removal of the LCAT phone number.

Some of the upcoming events on the LCAT calendar for Lincoln County include the 4th of July events in Alamo and Caliente, the County Fair and Rodeo in Panaca; August 10-13, the Las Vegas Astronomical Society visit Sept. 2-3, Labor Day celebration in Pioche, Sept. 3-5, the Dutch Oven Cook-off at Cathedral Gorge State Park, Sept. 17,and the Park to Park Pedal Oct. 8, beginning and ending at Kershaw-Ryan State Park.
