The Caliente Olson Senior Center members were hard at work on the Fourth of July while enjoying the parade. Members provided residents with cold water, soda, hot dogs, popcorn and snacks in front of their center, which was on the path of the parade.
The senior center recently held two bake sales, one at Jerry’s Sinclair and one at Grover C. Dils Hospital.
“We made over $600,” board member Toni Sutton proudly stated. “We would of made more if we didn’t run out.”
President Linda Claiborne said, “The center would like to thank everyone for their purchase and generous donations. Special thanks to Grover C. Dils for their participation and donations that helped make the bake sales such a success.”
She added, “We’d also like to thank SNORE Racing for their generous donation of $500.”
Claiborne said the nonprofit senior center is accomplishing its mission. “Our goal is to raise money for the seniors of the community and to have fun-filled events. We are doing a great job and would like thank the community for their support.”
Members are currently planning a comedy show at the center. “The Knights of the Square Table” will be held at the center on Saturday, August 6 at noon and then again at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.
The senior center also has a cookbook for sale. “Tried and True” is a collection of delicious recipes from Caliente Senior Citizens, Inc. Tried and True includes lots of good recipes from local residents. The book can be purchased at the center.
Ongoing activities include Weekly Thursday Bingo at 12:30 p.m. and KENO on the second Monday of every month. The public is welcome to attend the senior center’s monthly board meeting on the third Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m.
Volunteers are always wanted to help man the center and help with the various events and fundraisers. For more information, to rent the hall, or to volunteer please call 702-209-7076 or contact Linda Claiborne at 775-537-7322.
