Pahranagat Valley has not been 2A Southern League champions since 2008 when they had such men as Dane Mulliner, Jenson Jones, Ike Spencer and Roy Lasike. That year the Panthers were also state runner-up to Battle Mountain. Jones (112), Mulliner (125), and Spencer (189) were all individual state champions for Alamo.

Pahranagat’s last individual state champion was Jeffrey Jones (113) in 2012.

As the new season begins this week, Battle Mountain is four-time defending 2A state champion.

The Panthers have nine returning lettermen from 2015 including state qualifiers Danny Heredia (145), David Ingram (152). Salvador Heredia (113) was the state runner-up in 2015.

Freshman Reece Thornton (170) is expected to be a big help to the PVHS team. He joins the team after winning the state middle school title last year.

Coach Brad Loveday, who begins his 22nd season at PVHS said, “We will work hard and be very competitive.”

To begin the season the team started with a three team match at Moapa Valley yesterday. Virgin Valley was also involved.

On Dec. 10, the Panther and Lincoln County travel to Parowan, Utah for the Paul Williamson Memorial tournament featuring a number of Utah teams.
