Santa Claus was on hand for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Caliente last Saturday.

The Caliente Beautification Committee held its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Depot at 7 p.m. last Saturday.

Residents take their children to this annual event so they can sit on Santa’s lap, chat and get a candy cane.

“Many thanks to Bob Davis and our entertainers for their lovely program,” said Lavette Lee, president of the beautification committee. The selling of the plaques for the tree lighting is our only fundraiser for the year.”

“The beautification committee consists of Lynn Wood, Jaime Torrelday, Millie Fitzsimons, Tina Taylor, John Ahlstrom and myself,” said Lee. “We have been doing this for years.”

She added, “We also do the military banners that are hanging on the light poles as well as the flowers and welcoming banners around town, and we sponsor the Boy Scouts who put up the American flag on every holiday. These are just a few of our endeavor. Our latest and biggest project is raising money to help restore the Depot. Any help to promote this enormous job would be greatly appreciated.”
