It?s the most wonderful time of the year! This was especially true in Pioche on Monday when the town initiated the season with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.
The Christmas Tree Lighting is always a charming reminder of the many reasons to love living in a small town, as one of a few annual close-knit gatherings held together year after year. The event began decades ago and the event has held steadfast to many of the original traditions, and always remains a favorite Christmas event in the community.
Residents gathered at the uptown park in the pitch black of night, where barrel fires kept everyone warm, and hot chocolate was served. Children roasted marshmallows for s?mores and this year homemade chili was served.
When the kids saw the local fire truck arriving with lights, they knew Santa was near, as he had been transported to the park on a fire truck in recent years. The big tree and all of the park lights were lit as Santa arrived and the park came to life and will remain lit throughout December. Children sat on Santa?s lap to make their Christmas requests. This year?s event had a good turnout and the park lights are as beautiful as ever.
