Kids gather to meet Santa during Caliente’s Christmas tree lighting festivities.

The annual tree lighting ceremony was held on Dec. 2 at the Caliente Depot.

As anxious children waited with parents bundled up in coats, scarves, and hats, they crowded into the art room decorated and filled with the smell of cookies and hot cocoa served by the Caliente beautification elves.

City worker elves had worked in the cold putting up lights, and they now came on as Santa got closer. And before you knew it, he had arrived. Children stood in line waiting to sit on his lap and whisper in his ear what they wanted for Christmas.

Jaylen wanted markers and books. Lulu wanted a hoverboard. Allison wanted a teddy bear. Nash wanted the MC Science Kit. Victoria wanted a fidget spinner. Grace wanted a dollhouse. The list went on and on, until the line ended and, as fast as Santa had appeared, he was gone.

The visiting went on as it grew darker and everyone slowly headed home. The turnout was exceptional and enjoyed by all.

Thank you to the Beautification Committee and the guys on the city crew who worked in the cold making sure everything was ready for Santa’s visit.
