On March 7, Charles Fay, Ph.D, a parent, author and consultant to schools, parent groups, and mental health professionals around the world, presented a seminar to a packed room of parents at Caliente Elementary School.
Fay’s expertise in developing and teaching practical discipline strategies has been refined through work with severely disturbed youth in school, hospital, and community settings. He has developed an acute understanding of the most challenging students. Having grown up with Love and Logic, he provides a unique, often humorous perspective.
The seminar’s topic was how to raise respectful, responsible kids. Fay provided practical solutions to many challenges facing parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone who deals with children of any age. He explained how to put an end to arguing, backtalk, and power struggles.
Fay emphasized teaching kids to listen, upping the odds of them making good decisions and feeling good about themselves. He provided examples of his own upbringing and shared methods he has used with his own children.
The presentation was entertaining and very engaging. Child care was provided by student volunteers from the high school and Kris Wood, who runs the Family to Family program.
