Pahranagat Valley High School’s Karley Whipple and Culen Highbe both received an Honorable Mention in the Review-Journal’s All State basketball teams.

Karley Whipple led the Lady Panthers (22-3) to the 1A girls state championship. She and fellow senior Alyssa Hanks, of Round Mountain, were the only female 1A players named on the All State list, which is usually dominated by 4A players from Las Vegas.

Whipple and Hanks were also the co-MVPs of the 1A Southern League for the second straight year.

Whipple had 27 points, leading PVHS to a win over Eureka in the state semifinals, then contributed 15 points in the championship game with Wells.

Culen Highbe, a Snow College-bound senior, led the Panthers (24-4) to the state semifinals this season.

He and Shawn Shumpert, of Spring Mountain, were given an Honorable Mention on the boys All State team, the only male 1A players on the list. It was the second straight year Highbe was selected.
