A burglary turned into a high-speed chase for local law enforcement in and near Caliente.

Officers Tyler Free and Dathan Lewis, who was with Free as part of his field training, responded to a reported burglary at the Family Dollar in Caliente on June 24 at around 9:30 a.m.

Witnesses identified one female and two males leaving the store with stolen merchandise and heading north in a white SUV with Utah plates.

The officers came upon the vehicle around mile marker 99 just north of Caliente. As they pursued, the vehicle increased speed and the suspects began throwing clothing items out.

Speeds reached over 105 miles per hour and the pursuit continued about 15 miles, with more items thrown out the SUV window along the way. With the help of additional law enforcement, officers stopped the vehicle and pulled each of the three suspects out at gunpoint and arrested them.

Four sheriff’s officers assisted with the pursuit and arrest, and a Nevada Highway Patrol officer later helped at the scene.

Drug paraphernalia was recovered, including used and unused syringes, but no drugs were found. All stolen clothing was also recovered.

All three suspects gave a presumptive positive test for being under the influence of drugs.

Brett Jury, 26, was charged with three felonies – eluding an officer, burglary, and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was also charged with driving without a license and with being an habitual criminal.

Mikenda Busic, 30, was also charged with the same three felonies, as well as littering, obstruction of justice, and being a habitual criminal.

The third suspect, Rithy Ouk, 41, was charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The three suspects, each from Utah, appeared before Judge Mike Cowley at Meadow Valley Justice Court on June 3.

Ouk was released to drug court in Washington County, Utah. The other two are being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center and arraignment will take place in Meadow Valley Justice Court.
