1. Why are you running for this office?
I am running because I think I can make a difference for good. That’s my desire. I want to be a positive influence on the board. My biggest reason is because I care about the kids and the district. I have worked in the Lincoln County School District for 29 years.
2. Where are you from?
I was born in Pioche. I have lived in Panaca all of my life. I went through all 12 years of school in this district, and I have been directly associated, in one way or another, for 41 years of my life.
3. Local family?
I have a brother who lives in Panaca and numerous cousins in Lincoln County and two aunts and an uncle in Caliente. My ancestors helped settle Panaca, so my roots run deep.
4. What do you think are your qualifications?
I have 29 years of experience, so I kind of know what is going on in the schools. Several people have told me I am definitely qualified for working for the district. I feel I can be fair and objective, and I am a good listener. I will listen before I make any decisions. I will be a voice for the community.
5. Have you served in this office or a similar capacity before?
No. I have not. I have attended many school board meetings over the years. I served under four high school principals and four superintendents.
6. What do you think are the major issues facing Lincoln County that you would try to work on?
One of the major issues I am concerned about is the safety of our students and staff. In light of things that happened last year, I am concerned about safety. I would listen to people and express their concerns and in trying to keep everyone safe. I am also concerned about our current core math curriculum. I think it is a difficult way for kids to learn math. The current methods are a difficult way for kids to learn math. I also know that some kids come out of high school not totally prepared to go to college. Some kids have really struggled, and I think it might be because they haven’t been challenged enough. I have become extremely familiar with other issues that faced the district over the years. I am just concerned for this district, and I want the very best for the district and the kids. I am aware that there are issues facing the district that I will be willing to learn more about so the best solutions can be reached.
7. Why do you think you are a better choice than your opponent?
Carolyn Harr is a good friend of mine. I feel I am better qualified for this position because of my past experience in the district.
8. Any further comments
I have no personal agendas. I care about our students and employees. As I stated previously, I will be a voice for the community. Your concerns are my concerns. Please vote Carol J. Hansen for Lincoln County School Board of Trustees.
