Lincoln County FFA member and Lincoln County High School graduate Shayla Mathews took state in Prepared Public Speaking and recently traveled to Indianapolis to compete in the event at Nationals, which was held Oct. 24-27.

Mathews’ Indiana trip highlights the many successful efforts and activities of the chapter.

Earlier this year, the program participated in State FFA in Reno, and a couple weeks ago, joined all of Nevada’s FFA teams in a Range competition. Lincoln County took third overall, qualifying them for Western Regionals in Logan, Utah Nov. 2-3.

Senior Guy Heaton said, “We did really good considering some of the FFA teams live for Range. That’s all they train for and do. We do lots of different things and still took third. I’m really excited for it. I think we have a chance to do really well.”
