The Lincoln County Lynx finished off last year’s basketball season with an 8-18 record.
Coach Sean Fitzsimons returns for his second year as head coach with his coaching staff, Kevin Smith and Kevin Hannig.
The Lynx have four returning seniors: Noah Smith (F), Kamdon Lewis (F), Jordan Cameron (G), and Alex Vincent (G).
Juniors on the team are Mason Thornock (G), and Dylan Robinson and Jaydon Heaton will be coming up to play with them as well. Mathew Hafen (G), Kobe Kelley (G), and Talon Phillips (F) are sophomores coming up. Cody Zile (F) is a new addition to the team. He’s a sophomore who played varsity last season in northern Nevada.
Fitzsimons said, “ [We have] some returners and a lot of young, upcoming talent. That’ll be a good nucleus and a good core to build on. It’s really unfair to point out a couple. We have nine guys and we’re pretty deep this year. Anyone could step up any night.”
Fitzsimons isn’t planning on making any huge changes this year. He’ll follow the same general plan, with a few tweaks to the way the team will play and how they play together.
“This year we’re stressing a lot more positive attitudes and positive body language. Nothing huge. This is year two for a lot of them in the system with our coaching style, so we’re hoping in year two we’re going to make a bigger jump from year one,” said Fitzsimons. “No one is bigger than the team. We want to bring a lot of energy to the court this year and we’re not going to give up. It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a very exciting season.”
The boys first game was on Thursday, Nov. 29, in Yuma, Arizona in the Southwest Rotary Classic against Lake Havasu. Their first home game is Tuesday, Dec. 4, against Adelson at 6 p.m.
