The Lincoln County High School basketball team followed a successful weekend at the Southwest Rotary Classic with a one-point league win against Adelson.
The Lynx played four games at the Rotary Classic in Yuma, Ariz. On Nov. 29, the team lost 64-61 against Lake Havasu (AZ). Senior Alex Vincent scored 23 points for Lincoln, while sophomore Kobe Kelley had 15 and sophomore Cody Zile scored 10.
The next day, the Lynx defeated Palo Verde Valley (CA) 60-49, with Zile scoring 19 and senior Kamdon Lewis pitching in with 10. Also on Nov. 30, the team lost to tournament host Cibola High School, 43-41. Kelley and Zile each scored 11 points in that contest.
On Dec. 1, Lincoln again played Lake Havasu, this time winning, 53-39. Kelley had 15 points and Vincent scored 11.
Coach Sean Fitzsimons said, “The tournament went well. Going two and two is always good. We could’ve won some of the games we lost, but we played as a team throughout which was really good. It coincides with my coaching philosophy. I was proud of the effort. Sometimes this early in the season it’s hard to go four games in three days when we’re not totally in shape yet.”
On Dec. 4, the Lynx hosted Adelson, squeaking out their first league win of the season, 48-47. The game went back and forth, with Adelson ahead for most of first half.
In the second half, it was a battle point for point. Lincoln County tied up the game late and Kamdon Lewis drew a foul in the last few seconds of the game. His foul shot put up them up by one and Lincoln won, 48-47. Zile had 19 points to lead Lincoln, while Vincent contributed 10.
The team is playing another tournament this weekend, the Bulldog Invitational in Mesquite. Lincoln took on Sierra Vista on Dec. 6 and will play two games on Dec. 7-8. The Lynx will then head to Cedar City to play Cedar High on Dec. 12.
