The City of Caliente Planning Commission met Wednesday, Jan. 16. They have been working on the new zoning map and will be doing more of this in the next meetings. They are also updating the City of Caliente Master Plan.

Councilman Regen Gubler delivered a message from Mayor Victor Jones saying that the board is invaluable to the council and he appreciates all that they are doing.

Ken Dixon reported that he has someone who is interested in the old fire hall. There was a discussion about revitalizing the rodeo grounds.

The Billboard Ordinance draft is being finalized and should be on the agenda soon. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m.

The Caliente City Council met Thursday, Jan. 17.

The council assignments were discussed. Mayor Pro-tem will be changed from Councilman John Ahlstrom to Councilman Gubler. Doing this gives each councilman the opportunity to take the mayor’s spot if he is absent.

Gubler said the board is very comfortable in its appointments but would also like to make a list of alternates.

Todd Parker came before the council asking for $3,000 from the room tax fund for advertising the Nevada 200 Hardin Off Road. The race will be in April. Parker stated that editors from Dirt Bike magazine may be visiting, helping to bring exposure to the event. He clarified that this is not a race. The most “elite guys in the motorcycle industry … come for this. We really like to put it on well and really nice so they want to bring their families back.”

He added that the event, which he has been running for the last 10 years, fills every motel room and RV park.

Councilmen Rowe and Gubler noted their concern about donating to a for-profit organization, rather than a nonprofit.

The council ultimately voted to deny the request.

The council voted to accept the contract with the Nevada Department of Transportation for the Clover Street Bike Path improvement.

The Public Works Manager report was given by Chris Glassburn, Fleet Services will be doing certification in-service operator training on the equipment on Jan. 29.

A special council meeting, set for January 23 to discuss resolution establishing, was canceled.

The next planning committee meeting is scheduled for Feb. 6 at 5 p.m.
