Louise Buettner, a retired nurse from Grover C. Dils Hospital, has been named the new Lincoln County Health Officer. She replaces Jean Lucht, who recently retired.
Buettner asked the county commission to consider doubling the number of hours the health officer is called upon to serve, from four hours to eight per month.
The commission granted Buettner permission to create a job description for the position.
District Attorney Dylan Frehner said he could supply her with copies of, or internet access to, current NRS health statutes and requirements.
Buettner, who has served on the Nevada Rural Hospital Association Infection Committee several times in the past, will need to have quick contact with doctors’ offices, the hospital, the lab and the inmates coming into the county detention center in Pioche.
Meetings of the county health board, which is comprised of the members of the county commission, are usually held quarterly in conjunction with the commission meeting the first Monday of the first month of the quarter.
