The Caliente City Council met on Feb. 7.
The council approved the annexation of approximately 49 acres of land owned by Amber Lee Rails.
Ken Dixon was approved to attend the Floodplain Management Review course and Elevation Certificate training on March. 13 , in Las Vegas. Dixon will also attend other classes that week.
A business license was approved for Whitney Wojtala of Whitney’s Business Consulting.
Parcel map changes were approved for Lois Alfano.
Map changes were also approved for Patrick J. Sedillo and Elliott Pavageau.
Utility bill late fees were waived for Jody and Tonya Maeder.
The council approved the use of 24 city-owned chairs by the Olsen Senior Center for its annual St. Patrick’s fundraiser dinner and bingo on Saturday, March 15.
Megan Barrow, PTO president, and Sharon Dirks, principal, requested money for two more picnic tables for Caliente Elementary School. Dirks stated that they were able to purchase two tables with the donation from the Gingerbread Fun Run. The cost of two additional tables would be around $1,550.
Mayor Victor Jones told them the board had not yet been able to contact Dan McArthur to see where the money could be allocated from the budget. The issue was tabled until the next meeting.
The second phase of the Depot Community Development Block Grant is due February 20. A representative from the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) visited. Kevin Phillips, a past city mayor, gave an interview about the history of the building.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Chase Dirks offered to present some numbers on what happened in 2018. Sheriff Kerry Lee wasn’t able to attend the council meeting and Dirks suggested either reviewing the numbers or waiting until Lee could attend the next meeting. The numbers included things like traffic stops, etc. Dirks stressed that he couldn’t go into details about things like DWIs.
It was decided that the matter will be on the agenda for the council’s next meeting on Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. The next planning meeting will be on Feb. 20 at 5 p.m.
