The Panther boys and girls track teams participate in the prestigious Richard Lewis Memorial April 5 at Moapa Valley High School in Overton. The 1A, 2A and 3A Southern Regional meet will also be held there May 10-11.
As April begins, Pahranagat Valley junior McKenzie Poulsen has dropped a bit in the statewide standings in her primary events for 1A girls.
The defending state champion in both the long jump and the triple jump, Poulsen is now third place in the rankings in the long jump, 14-8½, behind Isabella Minoletti of Eureka and Trista Merriam of Tonopah, both at 14-11.
She is second place in the triple jump, 29-11½, behind Minoletti at 30-8. Poulsen also ranks fifth in the girls 100 meters at 14.52. The current leader is Chloe Lamb of Green Valley Christian at 13.66.
On the boys team, Austin Mathews ranks fifth in the 800 meters at 2:24.99. The leader in that event is Camron Dunn of Pyramid Lake, 2:22.03.
Ethan Baine is fifth in the 110m hurdles at 20.08. Two Panther sprinters are near the top in the 300m hurdles – No. 2 Izzy Rieri, 47.62, and No. 3. Ryan Vande Sluis, 48.90.
The boys 4×400 relay team of Cole Cannon, Mathews, Tadd Twitchell and Rieri leads the state at 4:12.21, and the Panthers are third in the 4×800 relay rankings at 10:040.70.
Kyler Martin is fifth in the shot put at 36-5½.
The state meet for all classifications is May 17-18 at Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas.
