Dorothy A. Carter

Dorothy A. Carter, age 96, passed away March 28, 2019 at Grover C. Dils Medical Center in Caliente, Nevada. She and her twin brother, Darwin Kay were born May 21, 1922 at the Star Ranch near Mona, Utah to George Arthur Kay and Vera Edna Houghton Kay.

In 1926, the family moved to Caliente, Nevada and Dorothy attended Caliente Elementary and Lincoln County High School. She enjoyed dances at the school, picnics at the Cook Ranch, and playing the piano. She met Max E. Carter at a Valentine?s dance, and they were married on October 2, 1940. They had two children, Jerrylynn and Dotty.

Dorothy was a tailor and loved to sew. She and Max owned and operated Carter?s Cleaners and Tailor in Caliente from 1950 to 1981. After that, Dorothy worked with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program for 5 years, and then worked at Gottfredson?s Dept. Store for over 9 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is survived by her daughter, Dotty Hull, Caliente, Nevada; grandson, Jerry (Nikki) Carter, Caliente, Nevada; granddaughter Lisa (Russ) Hayes, Portland, Oregon; Five great-grandchildren: Myranda Carter, Magnolia, Texas; Christina Hayes, Portland, Oregon; Caitlyn (Steven) Beard, Panaca, Nevada; Jared (Natalie) Carter, Cedar City, Utah; Connor Carter, Caliente, Nevada; Five great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max E. Carter; son, Jerrylynn Carter; parents George Arthur Kay and Vera Edna Houghton Kay; sister, Enid Vera Cook, and brother, Darwin Kay.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Caliente LDS Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Mona, Utah City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Nevada Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent to www.sumortuary.com.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Grover C. Dils Medical Center for the loving care they gave to Dorothy.
