Friends of Gem Theater is asking the community to help rehabilitate and reopen the Gem Theater in Pioche by supporting Senate Bill 101 at the Nevada Legislature.
The legislation provides the full funding amount the nonprofit needs to repair and rehabilitate the building to reopen as a movie theater again. While Friends of Gem Theater has previously been successful in obtaining minor grants for work performed, the full amount of construction costs to rehabilitate the whole building is staggering and best managed under one lump sum for the remaining integrated scopes of work.

Friends of Gem Theater president Melissa Clary states, “A state appropriation would reopen this threatened building quicker than the fragmented approach drawn out through competitive multi-phased, multi-year grant cycles. We greatly appreciate the community’s support of the Gem through this bill.”
Supporters of the effort can submit a comment for Nevada legislators to see at the bill’s online opinion page at https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/REL/82nd2023/Bill/9723/Opinions.
“The more supporting comments that Nevada Legislators receive for this bill means there is a greater chance they will pass the bill with the understanding the public supports the Gem,” the nonprofit stated in a news release.
