For quite some time, visitors to Panaca have been left without many propane options.
Mason Stackhouse, the owner of the Panaca Market, as well as his son Marshall, noticed that RVers and vacationers were only able to switch out their propane tanks with the small number available at the trade-in spot outside the store. So, during last year’s renovation a plan was hatched to bring this service to the town.

That plan has now come to fruition with a propane refilling station located in the lot next to the market. After a talk with their propane supplier, the Stackhouses figured out that they could put in their own 500-gallon tank by the store, and after following the safety guidelines laid out by the state’s liquid gas board, they were approved to begin building.
While the small white tank outside of the store might not seem like much, Marshall claims it’s unlikely to run dry because they have contracted with Patriot Propane to keep the system up and running. Its location along the Blackburn propane route helps to ensure those who need propane can easily obtain it.
Prices sit at $3.40 per gallon, and to access the tank, drivers need to talk to one of the employees inside the store. The Stackhouses want to see how the propane service is used over time before committing to a larger tank or other additions, but in the near future they plan on paving the dirt lot for easier access.
