LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas-based nonprofit, will receive $3,000,000 in funds to provide school garden programs following Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo’s approval of Senate Bill 341.
The bill will award funds to more than 70 nonprofits and government agencies that provide education, health care and other community services across Nevada.
Through this funding Green Our Planet, which runs the largest school garden program in the United States, will provide programming to all Title I schools across the state, reaching 500 Nevada schools by 2025. The school garden program and hydroponics laboratories will provide the ability for over 300,000 students to learn STEM, nutrition, conservation and entrepreneurship skills through hands-on experiences.
“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Governor Joe Lombardo for signing SB341 into law,” Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet, said. “With the passage of SB341, Green Our Planet will continue growing school gardens and hydroponics laboratories in schools across Nevada.”
